Every stone tells a story.
These are ours.
From Victorian cornice to contemporary cladding — each project is a specification problem solved in natural stone.

Grade I Town Hall Façade, Bristol
The Brief
Replace 140 linear metres of eroded cornice and string course on a civic building under Listed Building Consent, matching the original 1862 Bath stone profile exactly.
The Challenge
The original tooling marks had to be replicated by hand — no CNC profile could match the slight irregularity the Victorians considered correct. Every replacement stone was dressed on site.
The Outcome
Completed 6 weeks ahead of programme. Zero remedial work required at final inspection.

Residential Tower Podium, Canary Wharf
The Brief
Supply and fix 2,800 m² of honed Kilkenny limestone panels to a 14-storey residential podium, with radiused corner sections and recessed joint detailing specified by the lead architect.
The Challenge
Tolerances on the structural steel substrate were ±12mm — unacceptable for flush panel alignment. Chisel fabricated bespoke stainless bracket systems to absorb the variation and hold every panel within 2mm.
The Outcome
The architect's specification document now references this project as the benchmark for panel-to-panel joint consistency.

Hand-Carved Fireplace Suite, Belgravia
The Brief
Design and carve three matching fireplace surrounds in Portland Roach for a private townhouse renovation — incorporating the family's heraldic device into each overmantel panel.
The Challenge
Portland Roach is quarried in small lifts; sourcing three pieces with matching fossil density for consistent colour across all three rooms required direct liaison with the quarry manager over four months.
The Outcome
The homeowner commissioned a fourth piece — an exterior keystone arch for the entrance — before the fireplaces were installed.

Collegiate Chapel Pinnacle Replacement, Oxford
The Brief
Rebuild six Gothic Revival pinnacles on a 15th-century chapel, including structural core repair, in Clipsham limestone matching the original Lincolnshire Limestone weathering profile.
The Challenge
Working at 18m on a scaffold envelope with strict noise restrictions during term time — all cutting was done off site, with each stone numbered and fitted in sequence over a condensed 9-day installation window.
The Outcome
The Clerk of Works noted it was the most precisely sequenced restoration installation the college had seen in 30 years.

Hotel Lobby Floor & Feature Wall, Edinburgh
The Brief
Supply, cut and lay 1,200 m² of filled and honed Roman Travertine to the ground floor of a five-star hotel conversion, including a 6m-wide bookmatched feature wall behind the reception desk.
The Challenge
The bookmatched wall required 14 consecutive slabs cut from the same block, sequenced and laid to create a continuous vein pattern across 36 linear metres. No two cuts could be repeated.
The Outcome
Featured in Sleeper Magazine's 2025 Hotel Interiors roundup as a standout example of stone specification at scale.

What architects and clients say
after the scaffold comes down.
“We've specified natural stone on 23 projects over 15 years. Chisel is the only contractor who's never come back with a variation once work started. Their survey is that thorough.”

“The Bristol Town Hall cornice was our most technically demanding restoration brief in a decade. Chisel matched the original tooling marks so precisely that the conservation officer asked which stones were original and which were new.”

“I'd been quoted three times before calling Chisel. Everyone else wanted to use reconstituted stone and call it restoration. Chisel specified Portland Roach, explained exactly why, and came in £4,000 under the cheapest reconstituted quote.”
